Let's be honest for a second. Most globally recognized people in the printing industry come from large countries. Also, being a native English-speaking person puts you in the front row of an international audience. Despite all the great things you can say about the people we all know, many hard-working people come from smaller countries where creativity and hard work are necessary to survive!
In almost every country in the world, you find beacons that ensure the distribution of local- and international stories, as well as local language coverage of events, product releases, and all the things we know from the bigger and more known media.
In Denmark,
Lis Lykke, the editor of
printogmedier.dk, retires January 1, 2022, and though her partner in crime
Søren Winsløw will continue the work, she will be missed! Lis Lykke is a charismatic woman who has published many stories since she set foot in the industry in 1992.
In the farewell story in the most recent edition of printogmedier (the print edition), her partner Søren Winsløw writes that Lis Lykke has always found good positions in the companies she has served. Eventually, she ended as the head of a local newspaper group. Lis Lykke's husband got a job in Germany and was stationed there for three years in 1989. Times were different, and she experienced a time where East Germans fought for their freedom, influencing her political viewpoints, leading to political work for the Danish Liberal Party, Venstre, where she served the municipal for ten years.
Lis Lykke has always been an active writer in the graphics arts industry, writing for her publications, later as part of AGI (Nordic Trade Media and exhibitor group), and finally as a partner with Søren Winsløw, delivering first a web-media, and later a print media to the Danish printing industry.
Now Lis Lykke is retiring - which is well deserved. Still, I wanted to write this since she is a strong woman that for years, has been publishing information in an industry that is so small that surviving is a matter of creativity, hard work, and a focus like most can't imagine!
With the skills and the positions she has had in the past, Lis Lykke could probably have a more bolstered bank account by now but chose to work with print. As Søren Winsløw writes, "she is an astonishing woman seeing opportunities and new ideas that often pushes me further than I would have gone myself, but that is because she knows we can do it if we challenge ourselves a bit." This is precisely what I see in her as well!
Dear Lis. I wish you a great 'next edition' where I am confident that you will enjoy good wines, great food, friends, and family. So much that I wouldn't be surprised if you are so busy that you will not even have time to attend the local trade shows in the future - next hopefully in May 2022. The May 22 show you will attend as you have committed to this last one - but the next - what about that?
All the best!
