According to tonernews.com, Ricoh has a significant presence in China but has announced via Nikkei Asai that it will move production from China to Thailand to avoid the 60% tariffs expected on Chinese-produced goods when Trump takes office. This primarily influences the parts Ricoh uses for its multi-function printers. tonernews.com also refers to other major OEMs to shift production from China. In August, RTM World wrote that HP suggested moving 50% of its PC production out of China. Finally, Konica-Minolta also decided to terminate its output in Wuxi, China, in August—all to avoid tariffs and be less influenced by geopolitical tensions.
The news was announced within the past few days, but Ricoh published a similar message in 2019. So, we will follow up to see whether this is new news, further reducing the OEM's presence in China.
