Lisbon, Maine, USA — Dingley Press employees were evacuated from the printing company's building in Lisbon, Maine, on Monday morning, December 9, after a printing press caught fire, according to officials. Lisbon Fire Chief Craig Bouchard said the fire was reported shortly after 9 a.m. and that nearly a dozen fire vehicles from Lisbon and surrounding communities responded. No injuries were reported in connection with the fire, according to Bouchard.
Most employees were sent home for the day with the exception of critical maintenance employees, who needed to inspect the printing press that caught fire. The section of Lisbon Street near Dingley Press, which is part of Route 196, was closed to traffic until about noon.
Dingley Press was founded in Lewiston 96 years ago. The company made moves to Portland and Freeport before settling into its current location in Lisbon in 1981. The company has more than 500 employees and ranks among the largest catalog printers in the United States, serving some 140 customers. Dingley Press said it completed a $17 million expansion in 2017 to add capacity. As a full-service catalog printer, serving medium to long run catalog customers, Dingley brings value through its unique RIGHTSIZE™ catalog format and sophisticated in-house co-mailing and distribution services. Its Lisbon building is in close proximity to some of the largest paper mills in the United States and Canada, which translates to lower shipping costs and savings on paper.
