Remote Proofing a Big Tick for Digital Light

At the beginning of the pandemic when post-production and creative retouching studio Digital Light weren’t able to access their proofer, they knew they could rely on GMG to provide remote proofing to meet their exacting standards.

Digital Light works with some very high-end clients, including handling large worldwide campaigns for Chanel. “We’re up there in terms of quality and that’s why we go with GMG as we know it’s the best quality. We’ve been very reliant on the proofer and our partnership has always been superb,” comments Phil Crisp, Managing Director – Post-Production at Digital Light.

Digital Light regularly sends proofs internationally, and their clients expect swift delivery to meet tight deadlines. As the instruction from the UK government came for people to ‘only go to work if absolutely necessary’, the company initially considered using in-market proofing houses. However, as soon as GMG announced its remote proofing service in mid-March, Phil didn’t dwell on the decision. He says:

“It was a very quick solution where everything combined to being a big tick. It boils down to trust and knowing GMG run as tight a spec as we do our end, in terms of calibrating the proofers to very low Delta E tolerances and verification of the printed proofs. GMG’s remote proofing is the best alternative to running the proofs ourselves.”

Digital Light have a GMG proofing solution incorporating an Epson Stylus Pro 4900, GMG ColorProof and GMG ProofMedia for absolute colour-accurate contract proofing – even on challenging colour and material combinations – and GMG ProofControl inline for verification of proofs to all local and international industry standards using the Epson’s inline spectrophotometer.

GMG’s remote proofing service works on a pay per proof basis. The proofs can be sent to multiple addresses worldwide, with despatch typically within one working day of receiving files. Proofs can be provided on a variety of media, including GMG ProofMedia OBA and Non-OBA in Matte, Semi-Matte, Gloss and Newsproof substrates. GMG ProofMedia enables the production of proofs verified to all industry proofing standards, including Fogra, G7 and JapanColor. Also available for Fogra39 remote proofing is the Epson ClearProof film and metallic foil.

Phil concludes:

“It was a really handy solution to a real headache. Plus, I thought the pricing that GMG offered was very, very fair – for the cost it was well worth it as a solution.”

Amy Young, GMG Color Marketing Manager comments:

“A GMG system located anywhere worldwide will deliver the colour output you’re expecting. That’s because GMG ColorProof uses GMG’s unique MX device link technology to calibrate printers. We have many customers who output proofs across multiple sites, and the principal of our remote proofing service is the same – you can rely on GMG to output proofs to the highest standard, no matter where or when they’re produced.”

Another GMG ColorProof feature that helps with remote working is the ColorProof GO module. It allows users to run and manage proofing jobs from anywhere and at any time via a web browser and even from your smartphone. GMG ColorProof jobs can be started via drag and drop; device recalibrations can be carried out remotely; and multiple users are able to check the status of a proof job simultaneously for image names, proofing condition, verification status, dimensions, colour channels and workflow information.
