The Confederation of Paper Industries (CPI) has announced the appointment of Alex Veitch as its new Chief Executive, effective 26 August 2025. Veitch will succeed outgoing Director General Andrew Large, who is stepping down after nine years of service that spanned Brexit, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the UK energy crisis. CPI acknowledged Large's leadership as instrumental in guiding the organization through complex challenges and expressed gratitude for his contributions to the UK paper sector.
Alex Veitch joins CPI from the British Chambers of Commerce, where he served as Director of Policy and Insights. With over 25 years of experience across government, logistics, sustainability, and public affairs, Veitch brings a deep understanding of UK manufacturing, policy advocacy, and member engagement. His previous roles include positions at Logistics UK, HMRC, the Rail Delivery Group, and the Energy Saving Trust, along with leadership in charitable and civic organizations.
CPI President Kevin Bussey welcomed the appointment, noting Veitch’s "in-depth knowledge of UK industry and drive to build a sustainable future for UK manufacturing." Bussey emphasized that Veitch’s combination of strategic leadership and stakeholder expertise made him the ideal candidate to lead the organization into its next phase of development.
In a statement, Veitch expressed enthusiasm for his new role: “I’m absolutely delighted to be joining CPI as Chief Executive. This sector brings together so many of the things I care about—championing UK manufacturing, building a sustainable economy, and supporting skilled jobs for the future.” CPI, which represents a £15 billion industry employing over 115,000 people directly and indirectly, continues to be a critical voice for the UK's paper, packaging, and recycling sectors.
