The latest economic report from the German Printing and Media Industries Federation (BVDM) shows early signs of stabilization within the country’s print sector after a prolonged period of subdued performance. According to the July 2025 Konjunkturtelegramm, the business climate index for the German print and media industry rose slightly compared to the previous month, driven by cautiously optimistic expectations for future business activity, even as current conditions remain challenging.
While the assessment of the current business situation remained virtually unchanged from June, the industry’s outlook for the coming months improved. The shift in sentiment is reflected in increased expectations for order volumes and production activity, supported by a modest rebound in customer demand and seasonal factors. Despite this, the BVDM notes that capacity utilization remains below average, and cost pressures, especially for energy and raw materials, continue to weigh on operating margins.
The BVDM emphasizes that companies must remain agile and closely monitor both domestic and international market dynamics. As the sector continues to face structural changes, particularly in digital transformation and material sourcing, business leaders are encouraged to leverage innovation, automation, and cost-efficient practices. The federation will continue to support the industry through advocacy, training, and technical guidance.
