Richard Stuart-Turner of PrintWeek reported that is set to close five UK packaging sites by the end of 2025, following its recent acquisition of DS Smith. The move is part of a broader strategic review aimed at improving operational efficiency and responding to ongoing market pressures. In addition to site closures, the company is proposing the relocation of one site, reduced operating hours at another, and small headcount reductions at two additional locations—impacting approximately 300 roles in total. The company stated these changes are aligned with its transformation into a more agile, sustainable packaging solutions provider. Consultations with employees and unions are currently underway, with specific site details yet to be disclosed. Paul Clarke, MD of the UK and Ireland Packaging Division, emphasized that the strategy is focused on optimizing resources and enhancing customer service amid challenging trading conditions.
