Saica Group introduced what it describes as the first recycled paper adhesive tape on the market, strengthening its position as a leader in circular packaging innovation. Developed collaboratively by Saica Paper and Saica Flex, the tape is produced from 100% recycled fibres generated within the Group. The paper is manufactured by Saica Paper, converted into adhesive tape by Saica Flex, and then used to secure Saica Paper’s own reels, creating a closed-loop system that begins and ends within the same industrial ecosystem.
The self-adhesive, linerless tape adheres firmly to paper and cardboard while enabling efficient unwinding and overlapping. Unlike many paper-based adhesive alternatives, which face recycling limitations, the Saica solution is fully repulpable, enabling fibre recovery after use. Extensive R&D ensured a balance between performance and recyclability, and the product integrates seamlessly into existing reel-wrapping machinery without requiring upgrades.
Already implemented at Saica Paper’s El Burgo de Ebro facility in Spain, the solution will be rolled out across additional European production sites. According to Federico Asensio, Technology & Innovation Director at Saica Group, the adhesive tape represents just the beginning, with further applications under development as the company continues to align innovation, sustainability, and high-performance packaging across its portfolio.
