Metal decorating continues to carve out a compelling position in the broader print industry, and Koenig & Bauer is making the case that this niche is becoming a strategic growth market. According to the data cited, printed metal packaging—particularly in food and beverage applications—is benefiting from rising demand for recyclable aluminum cans and premium decorative formats such as embossed tins and specialty finishes. Sam Pernice, North American Director of Sales & Service for MetalPrint, underscores the opportunity, noting that the global metal print packaging market is expected to reach approximately $118.82 billion in 2025, with North America holding more than 40 percent market share.
What makes this segment especially interesting is the convergence of sustainability and premiumization. Koenig & Bauer identifies six major trends shaping the space, from tighter color accuracy requirements and hydrogen-ready drying systems to digital solutions for short runs and advanced anti-counterfeiting coatings. Pernice points directly to the premium market dynamic, stating, “Brands are increasingly using embossed, matte, and tactile finishes to elevate shelf presence and justify price premiums.” The company’s upcoming METPACK 2026 showcase will reinforce this strategy with the world premiere of the MetalCoat 484, alongside advances in digital, offset, drying, and automation systems. For metal decorators, the message is clear: the future is faster, smarter, and increasingly sustainability-driven.
