Lombardi Converting Machinery has introduced its latest flexo press, Smartline, during an open house event at its headquarters in Brescia, Italy, held from May 27–30. The new press is aimed at the label sector and represents a significant evolution of the company’s well-established Synchroline platform. With a focus on performance, modularity, and efficiency, Smartline has been described by Lombardi as a breakthrough in flexographic printing for pressure-sensitive paper and film labels.
Smartline supports web widths up to 450mm and offers a print width of 430mm, with servo-driven components across the system to ensure accurate tension control and high print quality. The configuration includes a servo-driven unwinder and infeed, eight UV flexo stations, die-cutting, and a rewinder—allowing for streamlined, continuous production with minimal intervention. Designed for efficiency, the press reduces changeover times and enables tight registration even at high speeds, helping converters maximize uptime.
A standout feature of the Smartline press is its rail-mounted system, which supports modules such as delam/relam, cold foil, and an air-assisted turn bar. This level of modularity gives converters the flexibility to offer a wider range of label finishes and embellishments. The machine’s mechatronic engineering also reduces reliance on traditional mechanical components like belts and gears, lowering overall maintenance needs and boosting reliability in production environments.
According to Lombardi, Smartline “exceeds previous standards” in flexo press design, combining technological sophistication with practical versatility. The first installation has already taken place at Print Panache in India, marking the beginning of what the company expects to be strong global interest. With its combination of precision, customization, and productivity, Smartline positions Lombardi as a forward-thinking leader in the evolving label production market.
