Canon launched HeightIQ, a free application developed to simplify the process of generating height maps for elevated print applications. The tool uses AI-driven image recognition to analyze light, contrast and shapes, converting 2D images into grayscale height maps that can be refined and optimized within PRISMAelevate XL. As described in Canon’s application bulletin, HeightIQ is positioned as a fast, accessible entry point for designers, artists and print service providers looking to enhance print surfaces with dimensional textures without relying on specialized software or lengthy training.
HeightIQ streamlines the early stages of elevated print preparation by producing depth estimations directly from uploaded images, with optional tiling modes that generate multiple height map variations for evaluation. The tool supports up to twenty source images and outputs height maps suitable for further editing in applications such as Adobe Photoshop before integration with PRISMAelevate XL workflows. Canon highlights its value for users who may not have direct access to an Arizona printer, enabling them to submit ready-made job files that accelerate production for print service providers.
By enabling faster creation of textured, embossed and 3D surface effects within a streamlined process, HeightIQ offers a path to higher-value print applications without added finishing steps. Canon positions the tool as a way to broaden user capability, reduce preparation time and support growth in elevated print volume across large-format graphic environments.
