Digital Print Drives Spain’s Seasonal Packaging Success for Mondelēz and Suchard

[Refeed with correction] Constantia Flexibles has delivered a major seasonal packaging win in Spain through a collaboration with its digital division Smartflex and HP. Together, the partners produced 6.8 million uniquely numbered Suchard chocolate bars for Mondelēz Spain, made possible by high-speed digital production on the HP Indigo 25K press and advanced variable-data capabilities powered by HP SmartStream Designer.

Every chocolate bar received a unique number, transforming the packaging into a collectible experience that resonated with holiday shoppers. Production took just six months, and many products sold out soon after arriving in stores.

HP noted that the Indigo 25K’s ability to manage large-scale personalization without affecting lead times or visual consistency was critical to the project’s success. The platform’s substrate versatility, color accuracy, and robust variable data management enabled Constantia Flexibles and Smartflex to deliver millions of personalized packs efficiently and sustainably.

“This campaign wouldn’t have been possible without HP’s innovation and support,” said Olaya González, brand manager for seasonal chocolate in Spain at Mondelēz. “Together, we turned a packaging idea into a nationwide experience.”

The Suchard activation is considered a first of its scale within Spain’s confectionery sector and demonstrates how digital print can reduce waste, prevent overproduction, and provide the supply-chain flexibility needed for seasonal peaks.

By linking packaging to a beloved cultural tradition, Constantia Flexibles helped Mondelēz Spain turn Suchard into both a seasonal icon and a uniquely personalized consumer touchpoint. With HP Indigo technology at the core, the project underscores how digital print can expand creativity, deepen consumer connection, and deliver meaningful commercial results.
