Basic Prints Expands Digital Shift with Second Apollo

Kornit Digital has announced that UK-based Basic Prints has expanded its digital production capacity with the addition of a second Apollo Direct-to-Garment (DTG) system. The investment marks a decisive shift in Basic Prints’ manufacturing strategy, with the company moving the majority of its UK production from traditional screen printing to fully automated digital mass production. With two Apollo platforms now operating at industrial scale—each capable of producing thousands of prints per day—Basic Prints has restructured its operations to respond to the speed, complexity, and unpredictability of today’s retail environment. “Digital production is no longer an add-on to our business. It is now the backbone of how we operate,” said Kieran Hickey, Founder of Basic Prints.

Apollo’s fully automated workflow—covering loading, printing, curing, and unloading—eliminates traditional screen setup processes and significantly reduces labor intensity, enabling true end-to-end digital production at scale. “Basic Prints has moved most of its production from screen to digital and is running thousands of prints per day on each of their Apollo systems,” said Ronen Samuel, CEO of Kornit Digital, highlighting the flexibility to switch designs instantly and manage complex graphics without setup limitations. By bringing high-volume digital production closer to market, Basic Prints supports faster replenishment cycles, lower inventory risk, and greater responsiveness for retailers. The move underscores a broader industry transition toward agile, data-driven, on-demand apparel manufacturing.
