Esko Introduces Cape Pack Prime to Cut Packaging Costs and Support Sustainability Targets

Esko announced the global release of Cape Pack Prime, a new sustainability-focused extension to its Cape Pack packaging and logistics optimization software. The cloud-based platform is designed to help packaging and label converters lower material and shipping costs while achieving measurable sustainability targets. The launch follows growing pressure on brands and suppliers to reduce environmental impact and comply with evolving regulations.

Cape Pack Prime uses real-world product models to calculate optimized case and pallet solutions, enabling converters to evaluate packaging efficiency, compression strength, and economic factors in seconds. According to Esko, the platform can reduce shipping costs by an average of 10 percent while minimizing waste through right-sized packaging and improved pallet utilization. Automated generation of CAD files, dielines, 3D models, and reports is intended to accelerate project timelines and reduce development costs.

A central element of the release is an integrated carbon emission calculation, developed in partnership with CarbonQuota. The capability allows users to automatically calculate and report carbon footprints directly within the Esko workflow, with optional integration into life cycle analysis systems. “As climate change concerns intensify, sustainability is no longer a choice, but a necessity across the packaging value chain,” said Jan De Roeck, Marketing Director at Esko. He noted that fragmented packaging development processes often make it challenging to optimize sustainability and track performance against KPIs.

By embedding carbon footprint analysis at the earliest stages of packaging design, Esko said Cape Pack Prime enables more consistent, data-driven decisions across brands and converters. First previewed at Esko World in June 2025, the solution is now available worldwide and positioned as part of a broader effort to standardize sustainability metrics and streamline packaging development within the Esko ecosystem.
