FDM Invests £1.5M in Canon Tech to Boost Print Capacity and Workflow

FDM Document Solutions has kicked off a strategic modernisation initiative with a £1.5 million investment in Canon production systems and a major reworking of its production workflows. Central to the upgrade are a Canon ColorStream 8610 inkjet press, ideal for high-volume, time-sensitive jobs, and a varioPRINT i300 with MX inks, delivering quality and consistency for coated and marketing-grade substrates. “The new Canon platform strengthens our position as a trusted partner for high-volume, time-critical communications,” said FDM CEO Richard Farmer, highlighting the move’s alignment with sustainability goals and future innovation. The workflow reengineering includes a new site layout and streamlined processes that aim to boost efficiency and scalability. The investment follows recent contract wins, including work for South Cambridgeshire and Cherwell District Councils, and positions FDM to better support complex, data-rich, hybrid print campaigns. As CCO Iain Bloomfield put it: “We haven’t just installed new machinery, we’ve completely re-engineered how workflows through our production sites.”
