Flint Group Secures RecyClass Approval for NC-Free Inks Advancing Circular Flexible Packaging

Flint Group has taken a significant step forward in sustainable packaging by earning RecyClass Technology Approval for its nitrocellulose-free VertixCode Star SC and MatrixCode ink series. Designed for flexographic and gravure printing on flexible substrates, these inks are engineered to maintain chemical stability at the high temperatures of mechanical recycling, enabling higher-quality recyclate and improved material recovery.

The approval follows extensive testing under the RecyClass Recyclability Evaluation Protocol for PE films, confirming that packaging printed with these inks is fully compatible with established European recycling streams. Importantly, the inks do not adversely affect the quality of recycled pellets or films, addressing critical concerns about odor, discoloration, and mechanical performance in recycled materials.

As regulatory pressure increases, especially with the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, Flint Group positions its NC-free inks as a practical solution for converters and brand owners who want verified recyclability. According to Eddy Arbogast, Senior Director of Flexible Packaging R&D & Technology, the approval provides confidence that packaging components can align with circular economy targets while simplifying recycling and supporting the industry’s transition toward more sustainable production.
