FTA Appoints John McDowell to Board of Directors

Flexographic Technical Association announced the appointment of John McDowell to its Board of Directors, adding a seasoned industry voice with deep roots in flexographic and package printing. McDowell, President of McDowell Label, a Resource Label Group company, has been an FTA member since 1997 and is widely recognized for his leadership philosophy and commitment to craft.

McDowell’s path into printing followed an unexpected turn. After previously serving as owner and operator of what was then the world’s largest Gold’s Gym licensee, a personal experience prompted him to leave the fitness industry and join his family’s label business. What began as a temporary role evolved into a long-term commitment to building on the McDowell family legacy and uniting the next generation within the business.

Under his leadership, McDowell Label underwent a cultural and operational revitalization grounded in printing excellence and people-first values. While the company has earned numerous national and global industry awards, McDowell consistently emphasizes that success is driven by teams rather than technology alone. His guiding principle is One Company, One Team, One Purpose, which has become a defining element of the organization’s identity.

“I am humbled by the respect of my industry peers to be elected to serve as a board member for the FTA,” McDowell said. “There is so much storied heritage within the association. I feel both honored and responsible to help advance the flexographic and package printing industry for the next generation of leaders.”

FTA President Nathan Ridnouer said McDowell exemplifies the values the association seeks to promote. He noted that McDowell’s long-standing engagement, collaborative mindset, and passion for innovation have positively influenced both his own organization and the broader flexographic community. FTA Board Chair Paul Teachout, Business Development at OMET Americas Inc., added that McDowell’s ability to blend creativity, craftsmanship, and culture will help guide the association toward a strong future.

In addition to his new role with FTA, McDowell has served on the TLMI Board of Directors, is a member of the Ben Franklin Honor Society, and has been a frequent speaker for FTA, TLMI, and the Printing United Alliance. Within the industry, he is regarded not only as a business leader but also as a mentor and advocate for developing the next generation of flexographic professionals.
