At interpack 2026, Fujifilm is making a clear statement about the role of digital in flexible packaging: the Jet Press FP790 is no longer being positioned as an “add-on” but as a true production platform capable of taking on work traditionally reserved for flexo and gravure. With four units already installed across three European countries and five more on order, the market traction is already there. What’s changing now is the scale of the opportunity. Customers are reportedly moving flexo jobs under 9,000 meters and gravure jobs up to 22,000 meters onto the Jet Press, signaling growing confidence in digital for longer, more economically demanding runs.
The technical upgrades reinforce that direction. Beyond PET and BOPP, the FP790 now supports MDOPE, BOPE, paper up to 100gsm, and label stock, while maximum substrate thickness has also increased. This broader material compatibility significantly widens the range of packaging applications converters can target. As Tommy Segelberg notes, “The Jet Press FP790 helps them to efficiently expand their capabilities and maximise their potential.” The bigger story is strategic: Fujifilm is positioning digital print not as a niche complement, but as a mainstream production technology capable of reshaping how flexible packaging jobs are allocated across the plant floor.
