Facing increasing market volatility, margin pressure, and just-in-time delivery demands, UK-based Harrison Packaging undertook a strategic production overhaul with Koenig & Bauer as a consultative partner. The company installed a highly configured eight-color Rapida 106 X with double coater to address frequent job changes and short-run requirements typical of its customer mix. Running at up to 20,000 sheets per hour, the press delivers the productivity Harrison needs while significantly reducing makeready times, allowing profitable switching between small and medium run lengths and expanding substrate flexibility beyond traditional solid board.
To balance the increased print capacity and remove postpress bottlenecks, Harrison Packaging added an Omega Allpro 110 folder gluer. Designed for both solid board and microflute, the system enables the company to enter the fast-growing microflute packaging segment without compromising speed or quality. With modified pre-fold and end-fold sections, the Omega Allpro 110 maintains precise alignment at speeds of up to 400 meters per minute, while integrated quality control reduces waste and supports consistent output across variable job profiles.
Together, the Rapida 106 X and Omega Allpro 110 have transformed Harrison Packaging’s production chain into a flexible, end-to-end operation capable of responding quickly to changing customer demands. The investment allows the company not only to meet tighter delivery schedules but to diversify into new, higher-value packaging applications. For Koenig & Bauer, the project highlights the impact of a consultative approach that aligns press and postpress technology with real production constraints, enabling customers to unlock new markets while protecting profitability.
