HEIDELBERG Shanghai Celebrates 20 Years with Record Output

HEIDELBERG’s Shanghai site has evolved from a pioneering venture into one of the company’s most critical global production hubs, marking its 20th anniversary with a record 1,500 printing units assembled in the 2024/25 fiscal year. Originally opened in 2005 to produce folding machines, the site now manufactures presses like the Speedmaster CX 92, SX 102, and CX 104 for both domestic and international markets. With over 16,000 printing and coating units shipped to date and a 40% export quota, the plant plays a central role in HEIDELBERG’s strategy, especially as China remains the world’s largest market for printing presses.

The company credits its growth to local expertise, high manufacturing standards, and intercultural collaboration. “Our Shanghai plant is particularly representative of the growth strategy of HEIDELBERG for its core business and underscores our strong market position in China,” said CEO Jürgen Otto during the anniversary celebrations. As demand in packaging and commercial printing grows—especially for short-run and value-added applications—the Shanghai team continues to meet evolving needs with the same “Made by HEIDELBERG” quality found at its German headquarters.
