Masahiko Metoki and Marjan Osvald Re-elected to Lead Universal Postal Union Through 2029

Masahiko Metoki of Japan has been re-elected as Director General of the Universal Postal Union (UPU), with Slovenia’s Marjan Osvald also confirmed for a second term as Deputy Director General. Their new four-year mandates will begin on 1 January 2026 and run through 31 December 2029. Metoki, a veteran of Japan’s postal system and former Chair of the UPU’s Postal Operations Council, was re-elected by acclamation, reflecting broad international support.

Osvald, who garnered 99 votes, brings over two decades of strategic and operational experience in international postal affairs. Both leaders are expected to continue driving the UPU’s modernization agenda and deepen global postal cooperation during a time of ongoing transformation in the sector.
