MMS Melter Mail Service GmbH significantly expanded the capabilities of its hybrid direct mail production by upgrading its fleet of KODAK PROSPER Imprinting Systems and installing new KODAK CS450 System Controllers. The family-owned company, founded in 1912 and headquartered in Mühlacker, operates 34 PROSPER systems and is one of Europe’s largest users of Kodak’s high-speed inkjet imprinting technology. The latest investment centers on upgraded PROSPER S10 printheads for two roll-fed Scheffer finishing lines, enabling variable and personalized inkjet printing on offset-preprinted mail pieces at speeds of up to 300 meters per minute.
Each finishing line now supports one- to four-color inkjet imprinting with print widths up to 980 mm, allowing Melter to handle demanding, data-driven campaigns with greater efficiency and flexibility. The addition of the CS450 System Controllers delivers faster print data processing, improved system control, and higher overall performance. Key requirements, such as personalization, shorter turnaround times, and campaign complexity, continue to rise in the direct marketing sector.
According to Daniel Melter, member of the executive board at MMS Melter Mail Service, the reinvestment modernizes the company’s inkjet infrastructure and positions it for long-term growth. By consolidating PROSPER printheads on high-performance finishing lines, Melter has increased productivity, reduced setup times, and strengthened its ability to deliver sophisticated hybrid direct mail at scale. Kodak notes that the upgrade allows Melter to offer faster, more reliable high-volume production, underscoring the continued role of inkjet imprinting as a critical engine for efficient, personalized direct marketing.
