Miller Newsprint Limited, Malta’s primary printing business, has upgraded its operations with the installation of a SCREEN Truepress JET 520NX, bringing high-speed digital inkjet to newspaper and commercial print production. “Digital printing has been a game-changer for us,” said Mark Miller, CCO of Miller Newsprint. “Producing newspapers locally instead of importing them has significantly reduced costs and improved sustainability.” As the country’s sole newspaper printer, the shift to digital became essential when offset volumes declined and importing papers proved costly and unsustainable. The 520NX’s advanced ink control, sharp image quality, and ability to print on thin 45gsm stock have improved clarity, reduced costs, and lowered environmental impact—benefiting both publishers and visually impaired readers. With growing interest in on-demand books, brochures, and maps, Miller Newsprint is exploring further digital expansion to serve Malta’s unique market and the broader island print community.
