The Big Picture Magazine / Keypoint Intelligence annual survey did not contain surprises, showing that wide format printers are finding paths to profit from signs, window graphics, banners, decals, and posters. Eric Zimmerman of Keypoint Intelligence, notes that flexible substrate applications seem to provide the most opportunity for profit with banners and decals leading the charge. An interesting takeaway from the survey is that Roll Vinyl cutter/plotter devices are most widely installed while digital direct-to-garment devices are least widely installed. Still, 43% of respondents indicated plans to invest in UV direct-to-object devices, while others seriously consider finishing devices, along with print devices.
Other areas for investment include online approval systems to reduce errors and plans to add automation to increase efficiency. Only 16% of respondents said that they did not lose time do mechanical issues while 72% admitted to losing up to 8 hours, making interest in workflow automation unsurprising.
