Pozkal, one of Poland’s oldest private book printers, has taken a major step in rebuilding its operations after a devastating fire in May 2025 with the installation of a highly automated Rapida 106 sheetfed offset press. The eight-colour press with perfecting capability (4-over-4) was installed in February 2026 and officially commissioned a month later. Designed specifically for demanding book production, the press includes features such as DriveTronic SIS sidelay-free infeed for gentle handling of sensitive papers and a lightweight paper package to ensure mark-free processing. With speeds of up to 18,000 sheets per hour, combined with simultaneous plate changing and inline quality control systems, the new press significantly boosts productivity while reducing make-ready times and waste.
Beyond technology, the investment reflects a strategic decision to emerge stronger in a highly competitive market. Extensive testing at Koenig & Bauer’s Customer Experience Center and strong local service support in Poland were key factors in the decision. As Artur Chęsy, CEO of Pozkal, explains, “The relatively short delivery time was important to us,” highlighting the importance of reliability and service during the rebuild. With increased automation, faster turnaround times, and improved efficiency, the Rapida 106 becomes a cornerstone of Pozkal’s new production platform, enabling the company to expand profitability and differentiate itself in the book printing sector.
