Standard Finishing Systems has announced the successful installation of Canada’s first Horizon CABS4000 Perfect Binding line at Premier Printing in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Facing the limitations of aging bindery equipment and rising demand for shorter runs with higher quality, Premier sought a solution to increase automation and flexibility. After visiting Standard’s National Demonstration Center, they selected the Horizon CABS4000 system, integrating it with iCE LiNK to unlock real-time performance data, JDF workflow compatibility, and more efficient makereadies. "Incorporating automation into our finishing processes to reduce manual touchpoints and other bottlenecks was very important to us," said Ted Gortemaker, VP of Operations at Premier Printing.
The full system includes a twelve-pocket MG-600 Signature Gatherer, SB-09 nine-clamp Perfect Binder with PUR & EVA gluing, CBF Digital Feeder, and HT-1000V Three Knife Trimmer. Since installation, Premier reports smoother workflows, improved book quality, and faster setup across formats. The move reinforces growing demand for automated, on-demand finishing systems, as noted by Standard’s Karl Belafi: “Demand for high automation in finishing is growing as companies adapt for on-demand production.” The installation marks a significant technological leap for Premier, expanding their capabilities and reinforcing their leadership in print and mail services across Canada.
