Print Scotland named Michiel Molenaar as its new president, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the country’s print and packaging sector. Molenaar, who has spent the past twenty years in bespoke packaging and serves as a director at Irvine-based Kennedy Smith, succeeds long-standing president Susan Graham of FLB. He steps into the role with a commitment to advancing innovation, strengthening industry cohesion and encouraging more businesses to join the association.
In accepting the role, Molenaar highlighted both the challenges and the vast potential ahead for Scotland’s print community. He noted that his background outside traditional print provides a fresh vantage point on the opportunities available for companies willing to invest in modern technology and creative approaches. “Print Scotland can and will respond to the current climate by moving with the times and investing in the latest printing technology to develop and enhance our productivity,” he said. “There are many challenges ahead and lots to do but still great opportunities for businesses who innovate and grab the opportunities in front of them.”
Outgoing president Susan Graham welcomed the appointment, describing Molenaar as a leader with the vision and determination to guide the sector forward. Print Scotland also announced the appointment of Richard McCombe, managing director of Graphic Warehouse, as vice president. Director Garry Richmond reinforced the organisation’s position that print remains central to Scotland’s cultural, commercial and economic landscape, offering a vital pathway for developing skilled apprentices and sustaining a centuries-old national craft.
Kennedy Smith, founded in 1997, is widely recognised as one of Scotland’s leading suppliers of bespoke solid board carton packaging, serving sectors including food, pharmaceuticals, electronics and beverages. The company is noted for its investment in advanced technology, most recently with the installation of a Koenig & Bauer Rapida 106 press featuring full inline colour control, PDF checking and an automated logistics system. Molenaar’s leadership at Print Scotland is expected to bring this same forward-thinking focus to the wider industry.
