GelatoConnect has released its State of Intelligent Print Production 2026 report, based on a global survey of print service providers conducted in early 2026. The study highlights a major shift in the industry: while automation has become a baseline requirement, the next competitive advantage lies in “intelligent” production systems that use data to continuously improve operational decisions across quoting, workflow, procurement, and logistics.
The report shows strong urgency among print providers to modernize their operations. Seventy-eight percent of respondents say modernization is required within the next 12 months, including 35% who say it is needed immediately. However, many companies are still in a transitional phase: 70% describe their operations as a hybrid mix of manual and automated processes, and only 9% report having reached a highly optimized production environment. In addition, 39% say less than a quarter of their end-to-end workflow—from order intake to dispatch—is currently automated.
