Dutch folding carton specialist Rutgers Printing & Packaging Solutions, based in Zoetermeer, has taken a significant step forward in sustainable and efficient packaging production with the installation of a Koenig & Bauer Rapida 76. The seven-color press, equipped with a coating unit, is now the production backbone for Rutgers, enabling faster throughput, reduced waste, and greater versatility in handling food and non-food packaging. “We are really taking a leap in terms of efficiency, productivity, and capacity,” noted Managing Director Oscar Pepermans.
Designed with high-end automation features carried over from the larger Rapida 106, the B2-format Rapida 76 supports substrates up to 1 mm thick and includes automated plate changes, advanced washing systems, and inline color control via QualiTronic ColorControl. Its configuration supports Extended Colour Gamut (ECG) production, reducing the need for frequent spot color changes and improving both speed and color consistency. This move comes after extensive testing at Koenig & Bauer’s Radebeul facility, cementing Rutgers’ confidence in the press’s performance for next-generation packaging demands.
