Sappi Europe announced a further round of price increases for its graphic paper portfolio, following the company’s earlier communication covering Graphic Paper products effective 16 March 2026. For deliveries from 15 April 2026 onward, prices will rise by €40 per ton on all Mechanical Coated Reels and by €50 per ton on all Woodfree products, adding fresh pressure for buyers already adjusting to higher paper costs across the segment.
It says the move is tied first to the economics of the business itself, noting that the underlying profitability of graphic paper has remained too weak for too long. In Sappi’s words, “Restoring a healthy margin position is essential to ensure the long-term continuity, quality, and reliability of supply,” making the latest increase, in its view, unavoidable. That framing positions the adjustment not as a short-term commercial tactic, but as part of a broader effort to rebuild margin in a market that continues to face structural pressure.
Sappi also pointed to rising uncertainty beyond its own operations, saying the evolving situation in the Middle East is beginning to drive cost volatility across global supply chains. The company said temporary surcharges could still be introduced if conditions worsen, and it also reserved the right to review prices again should market conditions materially change. Customers will be contacted individually by Sappi Europe’s sales organization to discuss implementation, and for printers, publishers, and paper merchants, the message is clear that graphic paper pricing in Europe remains unsettled heading into the second quarter of 2026.
