SCREEN Europe’s recent Proven & Approved Inkjet Printing for Pharma Leaflets Open House made a compelling case for digital transformation in the pharmaceutical printing sector. Held at the company’s Inkjet Innovation Center in Amsterdam, the event brought together leading pharmaceutical printers and packaging specialists for live demonstrations, workflow tours, and expert discussions focused on the unique performance requirements of leaflet printing.
The response confirmed that SCREEN’s Truepress JET solutions are already delivering the precision, consistency, and quality assurance demanded for patient-critical inserts. Demonstrations highlighted the capabilities of SCREEN’s SC+ inks, which achieve offset-equivalent text sharpness and optical density, ensuring the ultra-small text required for pharmaceutical information remains legible without sacrificing productivity. Attendees were also impressed by the presses' ability to print on ultra-thin pharmaceutical papers, as well as approved coated and offset-coated stocks, without primers or additional workflow steps.
Workflow innovation was another focal point. SCREEN’s EQUIOS workflow platform, paired with advanced finishing systems, provides consistent output from first sheet to last while enabling automation that lowers waste, increases productivity, and frees operators to process more jobs. These strengths align with the pharmaceutical industry’s growing shift toward Just-in-Time production models, where reduced inventory, higher agility, and minimized obsolescence are becoming essential.
The event also showcased collaboration across the full production chain, with partners MBO KOMORI, delfort, and Koehler Paper demonstrating solutions spanning substrates, folding, and finishing. A highlight of the program came from keynote speaker Ralf Kutschera, Head of Strategic Purchasing at Faller Packaging, who shared insights from more than a decade of working with SCREEN technologies. Faller now produces roughly half of its pharmaceutical leaflets using four Truepress JET systems, with a fifth installation planned. “Digital printing is no longer about fulfilling a particular niche,” Kutschera said. “It is increasingly becoming our primary production method as we move forward.”
As guests departed, the conclusion was unmistakable: pharmaceutical leaflet production is moving toward smart, automated, digitally driven workflows. SCREEN Europe is prepared to lead this shift, working closely with customers, partners, and pharmaceutical brands to establish digital inkjet technology as the new standard for accuracy, speed, efficiency, and compliance in medical communication production.
