Swanline Breaks Industry Barrier by Connecting Non-BOBST Machines to BOBST Connect Platform

Swanline Group achieved a world-first by connecting non-BOBST equipment to the BOBST Connect platform, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of Industry 4.0 for packaging production. Using the BOBST Connect Data Kit, the UK-based trade supplier has created a unified, data-driven ecosystem that integrates machinery from different manufacturers, overcoming long-standing barriers posed by fragmented data and incompatible systems.

The impact of the integration has been immediate and measurable. Within the first year, Swanline reported a 7% increase in productivity, a 5-10% reduction in unplanned downtime, and a 2-4% decrease in waste. Real-time data visibility has enabled faster identification of production issues, improved setup control, and more accurate job costing, while also supporting better decision-making across both operational and commercial teams.

Beyond operational gains, the project opens new possibilities for the industry by demonstrating that full production visibility is not limited to a single-vendor environment. By integrating machines from any manufacturer, Swanline is helping to define a more flexible and scalable model for connected manufacturing. As the UK pilot site, the company is now working with BOBST to expand data capture across additional equipment and explore areas such as energy monitoring, further advancing the shift toward smarter, more responsive production environments.
