TECHKON Adds AI-Driven Spectral Data Generation to ChromaQA

TECHKON USA has announced a new feature for its ChromaQA color quality management software that enables the generation of accurate spectral data from color standards defined solely by CIELab values. The capability uses the AI-driven SmartInk formulation engine combined with a colorant set matched to the original ink and substrate conditions to reconstruct the physical properties of the color. This development addresses a major limitation of CIELab values, which describe how a color appears under a specific light source but do not capture the underlying spectral behavior of the pigments.

Because different pigment mixtures can share the same Lab values—a phenomenon known as metamerism—colors that appear identical under one lighting condition may shift under another, such as moving from daylight to LED lighting. By generating a full spectral reflectance curve, ChromaQA enables printers and color management systems to predict color performance under multiple illuminants, substrates, and ink configurations. This results in improved illuminant-independent color matching, greater resistance to metamerism, more accurate reproduction in CMYK and extended-gamut workflows, and more reliable press profiling. The new capability will be included in the upcoming release of ChromaQA 7, which is scheduled to launch next month as part of a broader update to TECHKON’s flagship color management software.
