Techkon USA has announced a significant enhancement to its ChromaQA color QA management suite, enabling the generation of accurate spectral data from color standards defined solely by CIELab values. While Lab values describe how a color appears under a specific light source, they do not capture its physical behavior, which can lead to metamerism when lighting conditions change. To address this limitation, ChromaQA leverages the AI-driven SmartInk formulation engine alongside a colorant set aligned with the ink and substrate of the original standard. “We continue to innovate traditional press-side tools, adding value for operators looking to increase profitability, consistency and quality in color,” said George Adam, President of Techkon USA.
By reconstructing the physical pigment properties behind a Lab-defined color, the system generates a full spectral reflectance dataset, enabling more reliable color matching across illuminants, substrates, and ink systems. This capability supports improved spot color reproduction, extended gamut workflows such as CMYKOGV, and multi-illuminant proofing, where spectral data is essential for consistency and predictability. The feature forms part of the upcoming ChromaQA 7 release, positioning Techkon to further strengthen its offering in advanced color measurement and quality control. For printers and brand owners focused on precision and repeatability, the move underscores the growing role of AI-driven tools in modern color management.
