TOPPAN Digital has been recognized by the Japanese Society of Printing Science and Technology (JSPST) with the Award for Encouragement of Research for its pioneering work in color perception technology. The award highlights a newly developed method for estimating individual color-matching functions, enabling displays to reproduce colors more accurately by accounting for how each user perceives color.
Developed in collaboration with Professor Yasuki Yamauchi of Yamagata University, the technique uses comparatively low-cost equipment to assess visual characteristics and tailor display output accordingly. By addressing the long-standing challenge of differences between perceived and reproduced color, the solution improves consistency in scenarios such as remote proofing, online product visualization, and digital communication workflows.
Building on decades of color management expertise, TOPPAN Digital is expanding into e-commerce and telemedicine. The company views this innovation as a key step toward more accurate, personalized color communication, helping industries deliver more reliable visual experiences in increasingly digital environments.
