WAN-IFRA Names Stig Ørskov as New CEO, Succeeding Vincent Peyrègne in 2026

WAN-IFRA, the World Association of News Publishers, announced the appointment of Stig Ørskov as its new Chief Executive Officer, effective from the beginning of 2026. Ørskov will succeed Vincent Peyrègne, who has served as CEO since 2012 and will step into a new role as Senior Strategic Advisor to the association after his handover. This leadership transition comes at a pivotal moment as WAN-IFRA continues to support news publishers in navigating digital transformation, business sustainability, and press freedom worldwide.

Ørskov, who has served as Vice-President of WAN-IFRA for the past six years, is currently CEO of JP/Politiken Media Group, Denmark’s leading media company. He is recognized for his strategic vision and proven track record in steering media organizations through change and innovation. “Stig’s visionary leadership, deep understanding of the media industry, and commitment to journalistic values make him the ideal candidate to steer WAN-IFRA in a rapidly evolving media landscape,” said Ladina Heimgartner, Chairwoman of WAN-IFRA and CEO of Ringier Media Switzerland.

Vincent Peyrègne leaves behind a legacy of significant growth and impact. Over his thirteen years at the helm, he expanded WAN-IFRA’s membership base, rebuilt its financial foundation, and advanced its role as a key advocate for news publishers globally. “It is an honour to pass the torch to Stig Ørskov, a remarkable manager with an impressive track record who will take WAN-IFRA to a new level,” said Peyrègne. Ørskov added, “I am deeply honored and excited to take on the role of CEO. Our mission is clear: we will defend press freedom and safeguard the public trust in journalism while supporting our members in building the future of news media on the foundation of innovation and creativity.” This transition marks the start of a new era for WAN-IFRA, reinforcing its commitment to innovation, collaboration, and resilience across the global news publishing community.
