MMT Invests in Finishing from Miller Weldmaster to Boost Productivity

MMT Print is boosting its signage manufacturing capacity with a world-first, custom-built welder from U.S. manufacturer Miller Weldmaster, designed specifically for high-volume fence mesh and billboard production. The 3.2m-wide unit—larger than standard 1.8m to 2.5m models—automates hemming, eyeleting, pockets, webbing, and kedder edging, all operable by a single operator at speeds up to seven lineal metres per minute. “This is the first piece of finishing equipment that has been custom built to these specifications anywhere in the world,” said David Walton, group director at MMT Print.

Expected to arrive at MMT’s Gold Coast facility in August, the system will significantly increase output, with plans to add a 5m-wide version at the company’s Omnigraphics site in Melbourne. The project has been in the works since a post-Printing United visit to Miller’s Ohio headquarters, with the designer traveling to Australia for a three-week installation and training period.
