IOT

Or Internet Of Things

Former President of AMS Spectral UV Stephen Metcalf has got a new position with Baldwin (who acquired AMS a couple of years ago), and his new position has the following title "Chief Marketing and IoT Officer." This is an extremely interesting position since this clearly indicates how Baldwin, as one of the big players in our industry, looks upon the future.

Baldwin is conglomerate of companies and services that ranges from consumables to products like UV-coaters, and more, and therefore even more interesting to see that the company bets on IoT. So what is IoT? Internet of Things is about giving all devices and IP address literally. When a device has an IP address, it can be connected with other devices or be used to deliver information that can be valuable in the entire value chain.

At LabelExpo Baldwin showcase how IoT is used to monitor the delivery of UV-light, consistency, etc., The implications of the future use of IoT one can only speculate about since Internet of Things is the basis for Industry 4.0.

With the Internet of Things, new services can be developed, and I believe the most important issue is to start defining standards for exchanging data and make sure that we enough IP addresses :-)
