This conversation has been re-edited into a shorter edition, which I saw first, to be honest. That does NOT give good credits to Jack Ma. However, I soon realized a full-version that gives a much better understanding of the two gentlemen. Both Ma and Musk are, well, out of the extraordinary.
Musk, i.e., speaks about becoming multi-planetary species and compares the cost to the global expense of cosmetics of today, puts things in perspective, and plays a role in understanding the depth of the two minds represented in Ma and Musk.
The short edit doesn't give a pretty impression of Ma. It's not a pretty sight (now you are warned), and the reason why I decided to share- and write about it is that nobody who establishes a business can be sure to be successful. Maybe there are a few denominators to watch, like network, money, visions, passion, and ability to create a workforce around you working hard to deliver.
Both Ma and Musk have many of these abilities, and both have created global businesses with a tremendous impact on millions of people. When you watch this film, Musk can't hide his amusement over Ma's sayings, and I am sure you will find some of them quite toe-wrecking too.
Can we learn from this video? Yes, of course. Especially the un-cut version, which by the way, lasts for about 46 minutes. First of all, if you don't have anything to say, then don't. It also clearly shows how important a leader is to represent his company, and regardless of the size of your company, you have to decide how you want to be perceived. This also shows that you can determine if you're going to dress up to a role or present yourself as you are. Do you think Steve Job every morning got up and decided to wear a turtle-neck and jeans? I don't. I don't think he considered the options, and he became an icon. Suites have become the "standard" for males in many businesses, but you can ask why? Former GM Indigo, Alon Bar-Shany, said in an earlier INKISH interview that all HP people would attend drupa 2020 without suites. So you can decide not only how you appear, but more importantly, how you present yourself - and Jack Ma is not who you would like to look like!
I recommend you watch both Ma/Musk editions since the long version is excellent, and the short one shows how films can be manipulated.
My daughter was diagnosed with diabetes not too long time ago, and of course, that was a shock. It was type-1, and though she is fit (unlike me) and has a healthy lifestyle (unlike me), she has to use insulin for the rest of her life - or - that is what the prognoses are for now. 20-30 years ago, diabetes would be a fatal diagnosis, but technology has given millions of diagnosed diabetics technology to enable almost everyday life. Today, insulin is administered via injections, but most anticipate that administration can be handled with tablets within a few years. In the future, we may even be able to use gene therapy to re-generate the pancreas and give people with diabetes their "normal" life back. Technology is amazing, but it, of course, also raises ethical questions. I am, unfortunately, overweight, and the Danish-based Novo Nordisk has developed pharmaceuticals against overweight - and though I would love to get the drug, I can't help think that I should start changing my lifestyle instead. I know it's not the same with diabetes, but Type-2 diabetes is about lifestyle. We see more and more lifestyle-related diseases that enable the pharmaceutical industry to develop products where it would be cheaper, and most likely better, to change lifestyle rather than using drugs. Do I want the drug against overweight - Oh Yes, please - bring it on!
Today I will not share anything about music, but rather a very creative person who creates excellent videos on Youtube. His name is Andrew Huang - and besides being a damn good musician, he is also a very good YouTuber, so let me tell you about this Sunday AMs recommendation. One of the things that since the '90s have developed music the most, in my opinion, is sampling. Sampling has led to entirely new soundscapes and a remix culture that has developed new musical expressions.
In the example I want to share, Andrew Huang has picked a snippet of music and then asked a few friends to use that snippet to create new music. It's pretty impressive what the artists can do, and I am sure that you can relate to this, as I also believe the printing industry is a very creative business - on all levels.!
I read a lot of books in periods. One of my favorite authors is Ken Follet, which I wrote about a couple of weeks ago. When I read novels, I always read in Danish. For literature and work-related content, I don't mind reading in English, German, or my language - but for all other things, I prefer reading in my language - and I, by the way, never read e-books. I have been so close to buying an e-reader, and every time, I am just like - well, when traveling, a softcover book is more convenient, and it never runs out of batteries!
First of all, trends.google.com is based on the user's search history. Still, more importantly, when printers invest, the investment is based on many parameters, and there is a time-to-market that will maybe suddenly change the picture entirely. I have always liked how exponential growth is explained using a stadium.
If you take one cup of water and pour it into the stadium, then next you double that, and so forth, when will most of the entire be covered in water? Well. The two last doubles will fill the stadium, and the power of exponential growth is explained. With inkjet printers, the market is not exponential, but when the offset equipment in the market is out-phased, you can speculate over what equipment will be next?
Would you consider investing in yet another offset press? I would speculate a lot before inking a new deal, which is where trends come to play. What do customers want in the future? Interesting, right?
