According to Print 21, Australian printers presenting at the HP users Dscoop conference were optimistic about the future of the print industry post-covid though highlighting the need to be open to new ideas and opportunities and agreeing that getting close to customers is key.
Staying with Australia, Sprinter reports that the Real Media Collective is running 10 weekly ‘Power of Print’ webinars to help print companies adapt to the post-pandemic business environment, starting in June.
In Europe, Converter magazine notes that new dates have now been announced for the joint ICE Europe, CCE International and InPrint Munich trade shows, which were postponed from June this year to March 2022, which seems much more realistic given the current state of the pandemic.
Meanwhile, Flexotech, based in the UK, reports that Colorman, a printing and packaging specialist based near Dublin in Ireland, has turned to Hybrid Software’s Packz native PDF editor to improve efficiency and cut costs in its prepress department.
Print Business carries a story on Toyo’s new S5 Flashdry LED UV inks for sheetfed offset printing. There’s no need for any hazard or environmental labelling and the ink passes Ingede’s deinking tests. Demand for this ink, which is produced at Toyo’s European factory in Belgium, has been driven by the packaging sector.
Labels and Labelling writes that the international Japanese printing company Toppan has established a cloud-based ID authentication platform in China to offer customers better engagement and to improve the supply chain management. L&L says that Toppan’s ID authentication functions can be added to a client’s own service platforms and information shared with ERP and CRM systems.
Indian Printer and Publisher reports on Google’s plans to introduce its News Showcase in India, having signed up 30 news publishers and organisations in India to license content to Google. For now this is limited to English and Hindi but other Indian languages will be added later.
ME Printer has a story on the Saudi Paper Manufacturing Company, which has just spent SAR 58 million (€12.65m) to buy a tissue paper rolls production line from the Italian manufacturer Toscotec in a bid to increase its production from 100,000 tons to 130,000 tons per year.
ME Printer also writes about Nestlé Egypt’s plans to use 100% recyclable packaging materials by 2022. Moataz El Hout, CEO of Nestlé Egypt, called on all companies operating in the local market to participate in the Plastic Packaging Material Recovery and Recycling initiative and to make more investments to preserve the environment.
From Canada, Print Action reports that Sun Automation, which provides solutions for corrugated producers, is to start selling Highcon’s digital converting devices in the North American market. Highcon is expanding in the region, having doubled its headcount in the first four months of this year.
Also from North America, Printing Impressions has an interesting story on paper substrates for inkjet printing, noting that there’s a growing choice of papers for these presses that’s making them easier to work with but that printers still have to be careful in choosing the optimum stocks for their customers.
Finally, Africa Print covers a sober study by Two Sides that suggests that many consumers are unaware that European forests are growing or just how much paper is now recycled. Instead, many consumers believe that electronic communication is more environmentally-friendly than paper, not helped by the reliance on online meetings and media over the last year or so.
