Operated under the Directorate of Printing, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the Government of India Press on Minto Road in New Delhi has introduced five new Komori sheet-fed offset presses to its production portfolio, writes The Packman. The installations significantly enhance the press’s printing quality, efficiency, and capacity to meet the diverse requirements of ministries and departments across the country.
Tracing its origins to the pre-independence era, the Government of India Press played a vital role in supporting the central administration when Delhi became the new capital in 1911. Its Minto Road facility, inaugurated in 1931 during British rule, continues to serve as a cornerstone of government printing operations. Following a recent modernization that included demolishing the old building and constructing a new facility, the Minto Road press now operates five advanced Komori Lithrone machines.
The installation began with a Komori Lithrone GL 440 Advance, followed by a Lithrone GL 529+Coater and three Lithrone GL 240P Advance presses designed for double-sided printing. “It has been an honour for us to have the Government of India Press as our esteemed client,” said Jitender Rohilla, General Manager – Sales, Komori India. “These presses mark a new era of precision, productivity, and performance for this iconic facility.”
Over the decades, the Minto Road press has continuously upgraded its equipment, transitioning from early proofing machines and legacy presses from brands such as Miller, Adast Dominant, and HMT to today’s state-of-the-art Komori systems. The new presses, capable of speeds up to 16,500 sheets per hour and handling stock up to 0.8mm thick, represent a new benchmark in print excellence and reliability. According to sources at the facility, the Komori installations have not only increased efficiency but also set new standards for color accuracy and overall productivity in government printing in India.
