The photo product market has been VERY exciting for many printing companies in recent years. As we all go digital with SmartPhones capable of snapping thousands of high-resolution photos, photo books and print becomes a luxury used for gift and memorable moments, and well, it needs some software. In the past few days, I have attended three different webinars, and I will write an article about each of them - with my views on the content, the platform/presentation, and the value for me - and maybe drive you to watch the replays yourself and see if you agree or disagree with me.
I attended the following webinars:
This one is about Printbox Masterpiece.

Printbox comes from Poland and has developed photo software for online ordering of all kinds of photo products for some time. As far as I can see, also quite successful, and according to CEO Michał Czaicki, more than 500 million photos are being processed annually - which requires some server capacity and knowledge about handling customers' very personal data. In this webinar, Printbox presents a new AI plug-in called Masterpiece.
AI has been hot in the past months, mainly text prompt-generated images, like Dall·E and other similar solutions. When I saw the implementation of AI images in Masterpiece, I thought Printbox had done a great job simplifying the user experience. With a business model that allows users to generate as many images before picking the one for the product, it gives more opportunities than Dall·E, which currently has quite some limitations - unless you subscribe to the service.Another great thing - and very convincing - is that Printbox included a customer in the webinar, giving an extra dimension of trustworthiness to the presentation and the product - well done!
The business model for Printbox is to charge a bit more for the generated image than the photos uploaded by the user, and I believe this model will work out great for Printbox and its customers.
According to Printbox, the plug-in can be seamlessly integrated with existing Printbox users as well as with new users, but the plug-in can, if I understood the webinar right, also be implemented with other services.Printbox has for sure integrated AI rapidly in their software - and the output has an unmistakenly similar look to many of the other AI-generated images. I believe this is a well-spotted opportunity by Printbox, and though I think it will be used maybe less than anticipated, it is a tool that can be used in many different applications. Printbox did substantiate that the AI-generated images will be available for canvas products and more merchandise kind products.
One of the nice things about the implementation is that the software enables scaling of the AI, so it has the correct resolution for the output device - a great product. As mentioned, Printbox did an excellent job discussing the software, the applications, and the business model.Great job - and a 4 out of 5 stars in this week's comparison test!
