Ravensburger Expands Digital Puzzle Production with HP Indigo 18K Investment

Ravensburger Group, the renowned German manufacturer of jigsaw puzzles and games, invested in an HP Indigo 18K press to expand its digital printing capabilities and meet the growing demand for personalized puzzles. The B2-format press, equipped with five ink cartridges and capable of producing up to 4,600 sheets per hour, is enabling Ravensburger to deliver premium-quality custom products with faster turnaround times.

The new press is primarily being used for Ravensburger’s personalized photo puzzles but also supports other creative product lines, including limited-edition and 3D puzzles, as well as specialty designs in round, square, and custom motifs. The company is exploring digital enhancements such as augmented reality and UV-active glow-in-the-dark effects to expand the interactive experience for customers.

Ahead of the holiday season, Ravensburger has ramped up production of individually designed puzzles and matching packaging. The company selected the HP Indigo 18K following an extensive evaluation at the HP Graphic Experience Center in Barcelona, where it tested print quality achieved through HP’s Liquid Electro Photography (LEP) technology. “The HP Indigo 18K not only provides the quality and speed we need for our puzzles but also opens up innovative possibilities for other product categories,” said Kai Linsner, Director of Operations at Ravensburger.

The versatility of the HP Indigo 18K, including its ability to print on various substrates such as foil and foil-laminated materials, will support Ravensburger’s continued innovation across puzzles, games, and packaging. The investment marks a significant step in the company’s digital transformation, allowing it to combine craftsmanship, creativity, and cutting-edge technology in its production process.
