REPORTING FROM KABUL - PART 1

By Editor Morten B. Reitoft

I start my words with a question; what is a human being?
Human beings perhaps have different meanings to different minds, or someone says human beings are like helping each other or sympathy with someone or some country…, let's go one step further, reach humanity and humanism.

If someone is really a philanthropist, he serves all human beings and does not betray any human being because he is human; he does not trample on the right of any human being. It seems that the ultimate way out of selfishness is to develop a friendship with all human beings.

I can't tell my name, but I am a Journalist from Afghanistan. I am writing about my destiny in the past 20 years' crises and now, in Afghanistan.

I am starting my story from when I was seven years old, where I started school. At that time, Afghanistan was conquered by the Mojahedin, led by Ahmad Shah Massoud. I remember my first day at school; the teacher taught us math; we were very happy. At that time, the government of Afghanistan was led by our president Hamid Karzai, and our government system was a republic. Day by day, our country (Afghanistan) developed.

At 18 years old (2013), I took my exam and started Journalism at Kabul University; I miss those moments when I entered university and said thank God for the blessing for being here and studying a field that works for society. I will be able to reflect on people's rights and reach them to use their rights in their country.

Coming to life in Journalism

In Journalism, one thing is essential. If we want to become journalists, we must have a curious mind, so I started to fight for people's rights; my first act was on August 7th, 2013. I stood up against a group of people that wanted to bring disorder to the university environment. I also established a media fighting for the rights of people. I wrote against people and groups that want to destroy Afghanistan; some of them threatened me, but I never gave up and continued fighting.

I hoped one day that we all could live in peace and spread peace around here, but unfortunately, the Taliban took over Afghanistan in August 2021.

In this time, my life has changed; I left my work, I cannot fight against those who destroy our country, they are misbehaving, and they do not let us criticize or write the truth. Still, I secretly fight them. I work to reflect my and many others' voices worldwide and show the world the situation - and hopefully reveal and get help for our painful country to overcome this crisis.

Now I am under lockdown in my home and cannot go out because if they find me, they punish me and do not let me go, I am in serious danger here, but I hope one day my words will make the world aware that in Afghanistan we are fighting for human beings and appreciate your help.
