Romanian printing company Rodotex has stepped forward in production capabilities with the installation of a Koenig & Bauer Rapida 106, believed to be the longest sheetfed offset press in Southeastern Europe. The press, which went into operation in August, features seven printing units, a coater, two intermediate dryer towers, an additional printing and coating tower, and a triple delivery extension. This investment marks Rodotex’s first foray into medium-format offset printing, a strategic move to support its growth in premium packaging.
The Dobrea family-owned company, which has specialized for 27 years in packaging for cosmetics, perfumes, and pharmaceuticals, previously operated only 50 x 70 cm format presses. The new Rapida 106 expands print formats up to 74 x 106 cm, offering speeds of up to 18,000 sheets per hour. Advanced automation systems, including FAPC plate changers, CleanTronic Multi washing systems, and QualiTronic ColorControl for inline color management, further streamline production while maintaining consistent quality.
Rodotex serves global brands and retailers, delivering packaging as well as illuminated signage and guidance systems. With its hybrid configuration, the Rapida 106 supports complex finishing applications, including UV and mixed UV matte/gloss coatings, ensuring distinctive surface effects highly valued in the cosmetics sector. The installation also strengthens Iasi’s position as a hub for Koenig & Bauer technology, where local firms such as Polirom already operate multiple Rapida presses and Omega Allpro folder-gluers.
