Week after week, we see Anthony Thirlby posting performance data of his recently acquired printing company JDP. Not only does he post about how he and his staff break performance records week after week, but he also posts about the new equipment he and his partner Andy Rae acquire. So what is this all about? First of all, I know Anthony Thirlby as a very competitive person, and his reputation being one of the most efficient Heidelberg customers in the past has given him a role as a praised consultant to many companies.

With thousands of connections on LinkedIn, Thirlby is, I am sure, confident about the reach of his posts - and to be honest - if you are asked about successful people in the UK printing industry, I am sure that Thirlby's name comes to mind among the first."I am very lucky to work with the best strategic partners. They assist this and push the boundaries of what's feasible from perceived capital equipment to software suppliers ensuring we stay relevant to our targeted market places," Anthony Thirlby.
So why this story? Well, at first, I thought that sharing performance data is the game that printers often do. You have seen countless photos on all Social Media channels with the speed of the PSPs printing machine. Often these photos are accompanied with 'whau,' 'great,' and admiration of both the technology and the delivery. I am confident that this also plays a role for JDP. However, I believe there is a way more important lesson to learn.
"For me, the contribution of a team to go on a journey needs conviction, dedication, and belief, and for me, the direct source of this is engagement, clarity, and delivery," Anthony Thirlby.Who won't be associated with a successful company? An essential part of being a human is to associate with successful people! When you ask for autographs from famous people, its because you get closer to the glory and fame, and some of the stardust hits you, and, of course, any teenage girl who got the signature of her favorite band has been shown to her teenage friends - raising her status.
I should choose to work with a printer; I would, of course, prefer to work with a company that is successful and seems to lead the way. Whether JDP is very different from other companies, most people can't say. Still, the storytelling surrounding Anthony Thirlby, Andy Rae, and JDP is for sure giving you confidence that this company is worth working with.Does this mean that you can and should copy their approach? No. I believe that what makes this work for JDP is because it's such an important part of Anthony Thirlby's DNA that it only seems natural.
"I have always believed that our industry is too closed, and sharing what each respective element can produce enables a network where we can constantly learn from each other.I told you before..... I love the industry and the challenges/opportunities it creates....😉," Anthony Thirlby.
What you should do, however, is to find your unique selling points (USPs) and find out how you can convince your customers and prospects about the success of working with you. Some PSPs believe the price is important, some product range, some speed, some environment, and you can conclude what is important. However, the most important thing is that your communication aligns with where your potential customers are.
Congratulations to JDP and the new management team, who have put JDP on the map like never before. I am sure your success has only started.
