At the BOBST Open House last week in Santa Fe Springs near Los Angeles, BOBST presented how BOBST Connect utilizes the amazing RFID chip built into the BOBST Die Boards. If you don't know, you hardly recognize the chip, but it's there, and the advantage is huge. First, the board is inserted in the machine; the machine reads the RFID and associates it with the job ID on the machine. Now the magic happens: as the plate is being used, BOBST monitors the quality of the dies, perforations, etc., and can predict when to invest in a new die board. As this happens while the machine is running, and before you HAVE to stop the machine, you ensure a quite impressive ability to plan the production.
