Xaar has launched the newest version of its Versatex digital inkjet printbar, setting a new benchmark in digital embellishment and braille printing for the premium label sector. The compact, high-performance system expands digital integration across a variety of analogue presses and converting machines, responding to growing market demand for high-quality decorative effects and accessible packaging.
The new Versatex printbar features a redesigned Ink Delivery System that doubles the High Build Print Mode speed, enabling jetting of 100µm at 50 metres per minute compared with 25 metres previously. Powered by Xaar’s Nitrox printheads, it can jet fluids with viscosities up to 1000 centipoise at ambient temperature and achieve builds exceeding 200µm, supporting advanced print effects such as varnish, cold foil, white flood fill, black variable data, and personalised digital content. Its High Creativity print mode and High Laydown Technology enable laydowns from 15 to 100µm in a single pass, delivering striking gloss, spot varnish, and matte textures for high-value markets including wine, spirits, and cosmetics.
A key new feature is the braille printing mode, which offers enhanced precision and speed to meet rising demand for tactile labelling, particularly in regions such as Spain, where legislation for braille on FMCG packaging is under consideration. The printbar’s upgraded Meteor datapath also supports higher data rates and a wider range of workflows, improving performance in web-based variable data black printing.
Designed for flexibility and easy integration, the Versatex now supports both right-to-left and left-to-right press configurations, allowing seamless fit into existing finishing lines or new installations. Its user-friendly on-press interface simplifies setup and image adjustments for short-run or variable jobs, while the modular design minimises maintenance and maximises uptime.
Sustainability remains central to Versatex’s design. Compared with screen printing, the printbar offers faster setup, reduced waste, and higher utilisation rates for small runs. Its ability to jet higher volumes and viscosities at greater speeds reduces the need for multiple passes, improving energy efficiency and lowering operational costs.
Tom Mooney, Product Manager at Xaar, said, “The Versatex printbar delivers exactly what industrial converters and printers need. Whether it is meeting demand for braille and embellishments or driving greater productivity and value in label production – the greater speed, precision and versatility of our new printbar is bringing the many benefits of digital to analogue presses and converting lines.”
Building on the success of the original 2023 model, the new Versatex is now available through Xaar’s OEM and distributor partners, including Nilpeter and Jet Technologies.
