Ricoh used its March 25 Mid-Term Strategy ’26 presentation to reset the business around a longer planning horizon and tighter capital discipline, moving from a traditional three-year cycle to annual rolling plans with a five-year view. The company said, “We will continue evolving into a digital services company and become a leading global integrator.” Ricoh set FY2030 goals that include ROE above 10%, ROIC above 7%, more than 15% growth in recurring earnings, and ¥350 billion in growth investments, including ¥250 billion earmarked for M&A.
For the printing market, the plan keeps office print central to Ricoh’s base business while sharpening the roles of services, software, and industrial inkjet. Ricoh said it will use ETRIA to improve its competitiveness in office printing and accelerate product development, while commercial and industrial printing is expected to provide stable profits and support new businesses based on inkjet technologies, including functional printing applications such as perovskite solar cells. From FY2026, the company will also separate Workplace Services from its reporting and move office printing sales into the Digital Products segment, providing the market with a clearer view of how print and services are performing.
The reset comes after Ricoh acknowledged that the outgoing 21st Mid-Term Strategy will fall short of several financial goals, with FY2025 operating profit forecast at ¥90 billion, versus a ¥130 billion target, and ROE at 5.7%, versus a goal above 9%. Ricoh cited slower growth in office services profitability, a softer commercial printing business, ongoing cost structure transformation, and an estimated U.S. tariff impact of about ¥15 billion, making this a strategy update rooted in both correction and expansion. For the print industry, the message is that Ricoh is not stepping away from print but is repositioning it within a broader recurring revenue model built on services, software, and production inkjet.
